DON’T FORGET TO TOUCH GRASS | SOLO EXHIBIT
“Don’t Forget to Touch Grass” is a solo exhibition I presented at Crenshaw Dairy Mart as part of the inaugural Crenshaw Dairy Mart Fellowship for Abolition and the Advancement of the Creative Economy (CDM-FAACE), which explored the theme “Inglewood & Prototyping the Abolitionist Imagination.” The phrase “touch grass” serves as both a mantra and a call to action — a reminder to ground ourselves, reconnect with nature, and remain present within our communities.
At the center of the installation is Life is Miroculous, a larger-than-life sculpture of a child-like deity with 360-degree vision who controls its own world. The work explores the idea that life can feel like a simulation while emphasizing the importance of staying connected to the real world around us. Throughout the space, I incorporated multi-sensory elements that evoke the experience of walking through nature, creating a calm environment for reflection. Visitors are also invited to participate by leaving their own marks on the walls and sculpture, transforming the exhibition into a shared act of creation.
